Nitro is Discord's subscription. It costs around ten euros a month at the official price, which makes it one of the more expensive subscriptions for what it gives you, unless you use the boosts it includes. Here is what it is made of, and how to pay less.
Nitro or Nitro Basic?
Discord sells two plans, and the difference matters:
- Nitro Basic (around €3 a month): custom emoji everywhere, bigger file uploads, a few profile options. No boosts included.
- Nitro (around €10 a month): all of that, plus high quality screen sharing, a customisable profile, 2 boosts included and 30% off extra boosts.
If you don't boost any server and mostly want the emoji, Basic is plenty. If you run a server, full Nitro pays for itself quickly: two boosts alone are already worth about €10 a month.
The discounts that exist officially
- The yearly plan. Paying twelve months at once works out at roughly two months free compared to monthly.
- Trials. Discord and its partners regularly hand out one to three month trials, usually reserved for accounts that never had Nitro.
- Gifts. Nitro can be given as a link: the same thing as buying it, paid for by somebody else.
The gift link, the cleanest method
A Nitro gift link is an address you open on your own account to activate the subscription. Where a product is supplied as a gift link, the listing and delivery instructions should explain how to redeem it.
What that means, and it is the important part:
- The subscription is on your account, with your history, your servers, your friends.
- If a link does not work, keep the error message and contact support. The remedies available depend on the product, order and applicable consumer rights.
Check the Ap Service listing for the current price, subscription period and eligibility rules. Promotional offers may have restrictions for accounts that previously used Nitro.
Nitro and boosts: the calculation to run first
A lot of people buy Nitro in order to boost their server. Run the numbers the other way:
- Nitro at €10 = 2 boosts included, plus 30% off the rest.
- For a level 3 server, that leaves 12 boosts to pay for, around €42.

What to refuse, always
- A link that asks you to sign in to Discord again on a page that looks like Discord: that is the most common account-stealing trick going. A real gift link opens in the app, with no new sign-in.
- A "lifetime Nitro" offer. Discord doesn't sell one.
In short
Nitro Basic covers the essentials for €3; full Nitro is only worth it if you use the boosts. And either way, the gift link is the quickest way to get it for less.
